I think we all agree on the fact that foundation is one of the girls’ best friends among all the makeup products that are commercialized!
The reason is simple: first of all, foundation serves to cover all the facial blemishes and imperfections. Not only it conceals skin discolorations, but also it fills shallow scars and minimizes black points (which are present especially along the T-Zone), making the skin look smoother. On the other hand, using foundation can have several other kind of benefits regarding the skincare: nowadays, more than ever, Cosmetics Maisons tend to suggest multinational products. This is why almost always the foundation we use has got, for example, an “SPF” (Sun Protection Factor), or a moisturizing/ anti-age component.
But.. When foundation was born, exactly?
Needless to say that makeup (in general) has extremely ancient roots and so, probably, some “primordial forms” of foundation already existed among the Peoples of the past. However, foundation in the way we mean today, is born at the beginning of the 20th century in Japan: Shiseido launched a sort of powder which was meant to be applied on the face in order to reduce discolorations. The innovative aspect of this product was that it was flesh-colored instead of white as it had always been before.

The first big product revolution happened in the 70’s thanks to women empowerment! Yes, because as an increasing number of women began to work spending a large number of hours outside home, another foundation requirement became important: the long-lasting characteristic. Shiseido also this time developed a product that was waterproof.
During the next decades, more and more advanced products were produces and sold by Cosmetic Companies and the new frontier consists in foundations that are efficient in the realization of their task, but also made by natural ingredients and without silicone.
Long story short, many types of foundation exist on the market, but today we will deal with just one of them that is…liquid foundation!
Liquid Foundation: Shrewdness and Mistakes to avoid!
#1 Match it with The Skin Colour
First of all, it’s important to find the right foundation color for our skin. A useful method is by applying the foundation from the cheeks to the neck: for the color to be right, there must be the smallest gap of colour between the two parts of the body. Otherwise it will seem like we wear a mask! And of course, we don’t want to.

#2 The Skin Undertone
It’s not something we usually think about, but choosing the wrong foundation in terms of undertone can make a massive difference on the way it looks on the skin! Believe me, I tried it on my skin, in every sense: I discovered that my skin has a yellow undertone when I apply a rose-toned foundation on my face (and spent about 40$ to buy it!!) and the effect on my ruddiness was like..grey. Yes, grey and listless!
So, with the aim to prevent this, take a look at this video in which are explained some easy ways to get what is your skin undertone:
#3 Skin Type
To improve the foundation performance, I suggest you to choose it on the base of your skin type. For example, choose a mat foundation if you have oily skin, or prefer a natural one (I mean without silicone) if you have acne.

#4 Before, During & After Foundation Application
Before: Apply a moisturizing cream all over the face.
During: Apply some setting powder especially in the t-zone in order to increase the duration.
After: Remember always to remove well your makeup! Clogging of the pores can encourage the creation of pimples. I also suggest you to spray a tonic lotion all over the face (for example Eau Thermale by Avène works amazing for this aim) to revitalize the skin that has been covered all day long.

Top Liquid Foundations!
Now, we are ready! Here’s my Top Liquid Foundations for you, girls. Remember: with liquid foundation a huge difference in the application is made by the brush you use. So, I invite you read this article I wrote “5 WAYS TO GET A FLAWLESS LOOK“ in order to see what kind of brushes suits better your tastes.
#1 HD by MakeUpForever (price 42$)
This is an oil-free and medium-to-full coverage foundation. It works amazing because it is almost invisible on the skin thanks of its formulation: it really looks impalpable once applied. It is definitely a long-lasting product, but if you have oily skin I suggest you to use some setting powder on it because, at least on my case, it tends to become polished during the day. This step is not necessary at all if you have dry skin. Another plus is that it comes in many shades and undertones so it might be easy for you to find the right one.

#2 Dermablend Corrective Foundation by Vichy (price 30$)
This foundation guarantees an almost total coverage. The amazing thing about this product is that reaches this aim without creating any cakey effect that is, unfortunately, quite common among most of make up products when we desire to achieve a full coverage finish. I suggest to apply this foundation by using a sponge, obtaining a more “compact” finish. It lasts up 12 ours, it is hypoallergenic and has an SPF 30. This foundation really works amazing if you have problematic skin as I said in one of my previous articles “CONFESSION OF AN ACNE FIGHTER“

#3 Le Teint Touche Eclàt by YSL (price 57$)
If you love illuminating foundation, well… I think this one is the best choice! It really minimizes imperfections by filling them up, and it gives light to the skin. It has an SPF 19, and I suggest to put a veil of setting powder on to it, not because it doesn’t last but in order to prevent a polish effect during the day.

#4 Studio Face and Body Foundation by MAC (price 27$)
This foundation has a low-to-medium coverage but it is possible to achieve even more coverage if you need to. The strong point of this foundation is that is very easy to use (blendable without effort, applicable in an homogeneous way) and the gorgeous natural satin-shine finish. It suits perfectly on sensitive skin thanks to its moisturizing and liquid formulation.
