Gone are the days when skin care was niched for women, in fact, there is such a big skincare movement for men that there has been a big rise of men spas across the country.

There is nothing worse than when your man has itchy, dry skin. It is uncomfortable for him and awkward for you.

So how do you find men’s skin care products that your man will actually like and use so that you can rock the skincare game together?

Thankfully, we did that research for you! Keep on reading to learn about the best skin care for men.

The Different Types of Men’s Skin Care Products

Shopping for men’s skincare products is not the same as for women, in fact, it is very different! Face care may change according to their lifestyle, appearance, facial hair, etc.

If they have a manly beard, there is nothing better than beard oil or wax. If they work in harsh elements or dirty jobs, they will need a strong exfoliant to cleanse the dirt off their face.

Exfoliator

If your man is experiencing dry skin on his face, not only will you need a good moisturizer, you will also need a great exfoliator to remove the dead, dry skin first.

Depending on his skin type and the exfoliator, he will need to use it up to 1-3 times per week in place of a cleanser. If he has oily skin, 2-3 times per week is plenty, if his skin is dry he should exfoliate no more than 1x per week.

Exfoliating should be followed by a great moisturizer to nourish the soft skin that is now revealed underneath.

We recommend using a low chemical exfoliant, to begin with, because your man’s skin is probably not as used to the skin care chemicals as you may be. Then move him up to a stronger percentage of lactic and glycolic acid. You could also use a physical exfoliant, be gentle with the skin at first.

Cleanser

A good cleanser is an essential component for a man’s skincare regime. Depending on his skin type and lifestyle, that will determine the cleanser he should be using.

If he uses hot water in the shower, spends a lot of time in the sun, or exfoliates regularly, he should be using a mild cleanser.

The facial cleanser should do that, cleanse the face. It needs to remove residue, dirt, and excess oils without removing too much natural oil from the skin. After using a cleanser, it is essential to apply a moisturizer to encourage the production of natural oils.

Moisturizer

A good moisturizer is at the top of every best men’s skin care kit. If you want your man’s face to feel soft to the touch, he will need to moisturize daily. Washing the face can remove the natural oils, so this is imperative to regaining the nourishment back to the facial skin.

If he is using a poor quality moisturizer, his skin will start to feel like sandpaper and have a dull and dry appearance. The more natural of a moisturizer you find, the fewer alcohol and drying ingredients it will have.

If his skin is dry, look for ingredients such as argan oil, shea butter, or coconut butter for ultra nourishment.

Masks

We understand how hard it may be to convince your man to work up the courage to apply a face mask, as it goes against all male stigma around being “manly”. The best advice we have for you is for you to both apply your masks at the same time and make a couple’s spa night out of it. Therefore it becomes a fun event you can do together.

There are many masks for men on the market, each with a different benefit. Look for something with clay, as they can detoxify the skin and remove impurities.

Anti-Aging

Men are as worried about aging skin as women are, they do not openly talk about it due to the pressures and stigma about being a “man”.

Make it easier for your man and purchase his anti-aging skincare for him. Look for something with vitamin C, antioxidants, collagen, and aloe vera.

Depending on the product, he will need to apply this day and night to get the ultimate effect.

Acne Care

When most people try and rid of their acne, they go for the harshest, drying products which also can dry out and permanently damage the skin. Look for something with a lower percentage of Salicylic acid to avoid any damage.

Sunscreen

Perhaps the best men’s skincare element you could invest in is a good quality sunscreen. A good sunscreen will nourish the skin, protect it from further damage and help with anti-aging. If you do not want your man to develop skin spots, big wrinkles, and risk skin cancer, get him a sunscreen.

For the best results, sunscreen should be applied first thing in the morning before heading out for the day. Remember to apply it on the delicate skin of the neck and upper chest as well.
