Purple was the color worn by Roman Emperors and magistrates, and later by Roman Catholic bishops. Since that time, purple has been commonly associated with royalty and piety.
Would you ever dye your hair purple?
This is the excitement of a question, the novelty. There is no hurry up to answer the question, because you may change your mind at the end of the article. It may be the first time you think about something like this. There is already quite a large number of girls and celebrities who enjoy their purple hair. It seems crazy and of course it’s out of regular. There is no explanation how the trend started, we think maybe the hairstylists had purple dreams several days in a row or girls wanted something different (as they always do), or simply their favorite color is purple.
#1 Jessie J
Jessie J is known for changing style outfits and hairstyles pretty often. The fact is that she was getting used with purple since august 2011. Jessie was one of the first celebrities who showed off with lavender hair. She shaved her hair live in March of 2013, as part of a fundraising campaign for an UK charity Comic Relief, afterwards painted it purple again.
“Having dead straight long pastel hair looks gives at teenage Goth feel, but pastel colour with a beautifully styled cut is what makes the colour look modern” says hairdresser Renya Xydis, a diehard purple fan.
#2 Kelly Osbourne
Kelly Osbourne went lavender in 2012 and since then she tried more tones of purple and never gave up on it. Just in 2013, Kelly confessed that she is contractually obligated for two years by ‘Fashion Police’ to keep hair purple.
TIP: The Osbourne’s color is a mix of gray, blue and lavender, and you need to have blond hair to get the right shade.
“All my friends kept asking me ‘Why do you want to look like an old lady?’ or ‘You do realize you look like Dame Edna?’ not to mention the barrage of hate I received via social media’’. At the same time, Ms. Osbourne said that the color has gained her plenty of fans: “In England, I’m called queen of the granny girls and I love it!”
#3 Katy Perry
Another celebrity who enjoyed being purple is Katy Perry who went with darker purple in 2012 at Coachella festival. She is known for changing up her hair pretty often, not being afraid to play with colors. In the last years Katy tried more rainbow colors. After a period on the brunette stage she embraced the vivid colors: red, pink, blue, green. Did you know that her natural color is blond?Magazines gossips say that her colors are changing according to her personal life.
TIP: Hair guru Renya Xydis says the cut of the hair plays a big part on this trend.
#4 Nicole Richie
Nicole Richie debuts her purple hair with a side bob at 2014 Met Ball. The color suits the star perfectly and it’s not so hard to wear it as she confessed: “it feels like having blond hair”. Richie didn’t know she was going to have purple hair until two days before she had it. After that, in may, she posed for ‘PAPER Magazine’, around her marvelous Los Angeles backyard and garden. She looked gorgeous wearing a multitude of amazing clothes, but her purple hair was making the outstanding.
Tips: Keep your makeup minimal.
“I think the reason we are seeing the longevity of lilac hair among celebrities like Nicole Richie is because it’s a way of creating a point of difference, which in turn makes them newsworthy’’, says Australian hairdresser Renya Xydis.
#5 Ireland Baldwin
Model Ireland Baldwin showed off her new purple hair color on a trip to the gym for a morning workout in march 2014. A night before, Ireland shared on Instagram more photos of her hair change, adding that she “could get used to this.”
“Think of your hair as a white sheet of paper and if, say, your hair was black, we would need to strip the pigment out to get it to blonde or white to see results like Renya or Nicole Richie,’’ says Ms Croker.
#6 Lauren Conrad
Lauren Conrad had her hair purple, but on April Fools’ Prank. On her website she said “really didn’t think that purple was my color, but after seeing several others wear it recently, I decided to give it a try”. Here is the perfect ‘receipt’ as Conrad’s hairstylist Kristin Ess gave it on Instagram: “To get this exact shade of purple, we went out and gathered rare amethyst stones. Next, we ground them up by hand until they turned into a fine powder. Then we added 2 pinches of grape koolaid. Mix that in a bowl with 2 oz. of mermaid tears. Apply all over and let it sit for 16 hours.”
Don’t be afraid to dress up your lavender hair color. There would be no excitement if you will dress up only in black. If you had the courage to dye purple, then let your imagination free and mix your clothes with it. Just keep your accessories on minimal colors.
We presented just a few celebrities with purple hair, but the list is much longer. Some of them dye their entire hair when some just try ombre and streaks.
TIP: If don’t like the purple hair trend, let your imagination and personality choose the right one.
Purple hair is definitely an 2014 trend. Break the rule this year! Embrace the rainbow and step up from the shadows.
