In my quest to become a healthier lady, I have come across the benefits of the Himalayan salt and I have fallen in love. Not only is it a beautiful, but also it is very healthy for you with a ton of uses, not to mention benefits!
Considering that standard table salt is bleached during processing, it really didn’t fit into my new, healthy lifestyle. So, I have decided to research a little about the Himalayan salt to see if I could really benefit from it. Seems like there are plenty of ways to do this, not just eat it! See for yourselves!
The Benefits Of The Himalayan Salt
#1 Himalayan Salt Lamps
When talking about the benefits of the Himalayan salt, it’s safe to mention the salt lamps. Not only are Himalayan salt lamps a beautiful light source, but they are also known to purify the air around them. It is important to make sure that your lamp is sourced from pure Himalayan crystal and not a cheap knock-off made from rock salt.
Because Himalayan salt lamps are known to create negative ions, they not only are able to help provide a relaxing environment and help improve your mood, but they also can neutralize things like mold, bacteria, and allergens in the air.
#2 Himalayan Salt Sole
Making a salt sole is an easy and inexpensive way to reap the many benefits of the Himalayan salt, such as balancing your pH, improving hydration and relieving muscle cramps by improving mineral status of the body, helping to balance blood sugar, hormones, and blood pressure, supporting weight loss and thyroid function, and even more countless benefits!
How to make a sole
- you’ll fill a glass jar 1/4th of the way with Himalayan salt; either chunked or ground, and then fill the rest of the jar with filtered water.
- you will then cover it with a lid, shake, and allow it to sit overnight. It is important not to use a metal glass or lid. Some of the salt will fall to the bottom of the jar and be will not dissolve and that’s good – you will always want some at the bottom.
- in the morning, you will take 1 teaspoon and mix it into a glass of water. Again, do not use metal utensils.
- as your jar runs low, you just refill it.
#3 Using Himalayan Salt With A Neti Pot
If you have allergies or are susceptible to sinus infections, using Himalayan salt with a neti pot could alleviate and prevent your symptoms, and also help clear postnasal drip. Neti pots are not designed for daily use, and you should only use distilled or boiled water when using them. Never use tap water with your neti pot.
#4 Himalayan Salt Detoxing Baths
The benefits of the Himalayan salt are very effective in aiding in detoxing the body during a bath. All you have to do is add it to your bath water – most people add 1-2 cups for a gentle detox, and those desiring a more rigorous detox can add more salt to their liking, or can also add Apple Cider Vinegar and baking soda as well.
Salt baths aid in drawing toxins out of the body and also deep cleans the skin. To be effective, your salt bath does not have to be scalding hot – a warm bath will be most effective.
#5 Himalayan Salt Bars
If you don’t have time to soak in a bath, a salt bar is a good option and can also help heal eczema, psoriasis, acne, athlete’s foot, and many other conditions. After you shower, you lather the bar all over you while you are still wet, and then you simply wipe it off with a cloth without using water after it is dry.
This is an effective way to give your skin a deep cleaning as well because salt is extremely hostile to bacteria. The application of salt may temporarily worsen some skin conditions because it will draw toxin out as it eliminates them. In time, your body will adjust and your skin will become clearer. If you do have a skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis, you will want to apply the salt by hand instead of using the bar, as the bar may irritate and scratch the skin too harshly.
#6 Eating Himalayan Salt
Wait, you can eat Himalayan salt too and get a ton of health benefits? Absolutely! Himalayan salt has 84 essential minerals that can aid in your wellbeing, and can help balance hormones and your metabolism. It can also support your thyroid and adrenals. Of course, if you have a health condition, such as kidney disease, it is important to talk to your doctor before you increase your salt intake of any kind.
#7 Another Viewpoint On Himalayan Salt
Throughout my research, I kept finding people that were concerned about the fluoride or uranium within Himalayan salt. I also noted that while these have been noted to be present in Himalayan salt, it should also be noted that the amounts are minuscule. There are other types of salt that have dextrose, or corn syrup added.
Refined table salt is bleached, filtered, stripped of any other minerals, and then chemicals are added to keep the salt from clumping up from absorbing water. And speaking of water, have you tested your tap water lately? Well, I sure hope you’re not drinking it – in most of the world, it’ll be way worse than the trace minerals in your Himalayan salt, especially if you live in the United States like I do. Our doctors continually look to see if the benefits outweigh the risks when it comes to medication, and if you ask me, this shouldn’t be anything different.
For my family, Himalayan salt has provided amazing benefits!
