There is nothing more satisfactory than a sweet treat, and it can’t get much better when that treat is great for your body! There are many benefits from the fruits such as boosting immune system, helping to maintain normal blood pressure, reducing inflammation, and keeping your bones, blood sugar, thyroid gland and nerves healthy. The list really does go on.
The aftermath of all the Christmas treats can be a little depressing, and we’ve all sat there willing ourselves to get back onto the healthy bandwagon, but it can be a tad difficult to drag yourself out of the slump at times. I can’t think of an easier way to motivate yourself to get back into the habit of eating well then to start with these delicious smoothie recipes that will restore your body of all the vitamins and minerals the festive season has deprived it of!
There are so many different kinds of smoothies and so many recipes that you don’t always know where to start. So I took the liberty of splitting them into groups to satisfy every occasion, whether that be a hangover cure, super yummy smoothies or an immune system booster to fight away that horrible winter cold!

Apple pie smoothie
Apple pie is a well loved dessert and one of my favorites! But all that pastry and sugar isn’t going to do us any favors… so if you are struggling to get up and motivate yourself in the morning, this smoothie might just do the trick! And two added bonuses are its vegan and gluten free! Extra yummy and you don’t need to feel guilty about it after! INGREDIENTS
1 apple, sliced
1 frozen banana
1.5 cups almond milk
¼ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 dates, pitted
2 tablespoons pecans or walnuts
dash cinnamon
dash nutmeg
additional add-ins: ground flax seeds or chia seeds
Red velvet cake smoothie
I didn’t believe it when i saw it either, but believe me… you must try this! There is also beetroot in this recipe, which is proven to increase endurance and has many more benefits, here are a few fun facts about beetroot you may not know!
INGREDIENTS 1 1/4 cup milk of choice (plain or vanilla but unsweetened – I used almond)
2 beets, steamed and peeked

1/2 banana
3-4 TB cocoa powder (use raw cacao for even greater antioxidants)
2 Dates
1 big scoop nut butter + vanilla extract or 1 scoop vanilla protein powder of choice
Key lime pie smoothie
A zesty fresh take on the classic key lime pie. This smoothie will tingle your taste buds, a must try dessert inspired smoothie!
Ingredients
1 cup Silk Unsweetened Vanilla almondmilk
1 frozen banana
1/2 cup baby spinach leaves
1 Tbsp lime juice
Zest of 1 lime
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 Medjool date, pitted

Carrot cake smoothie
This spiced delight is perfect for the days when you just want to wrap up in front of the TV and stay out of the cold!
Ingredients:
2 cups carrots, lightly steamed
1 cup unsweetened milk
1 frozen banana
1 Date
1 tsp cinnamon powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 Tbsp almond butter
pinch of baking soda (somehow makes it more cakey)
Pumpkin orange cream smoothie
Inspired by pumpkin cupcakes with orange cream frosting this delicious smoothie is guaranteed to hit the spot!

1 medium orange, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup vanilla non-dairy yogurt

1 1/2 cups Unsweetened Almond Milk
4 Medjool Dates, pitted

Ingredients 1 cup coconut milk

dash of cinnamon
1 tsp. instant coffee granules (optional)
2 Tbsp. chocolate or vanilla protein powder (optional)

One for the chocoholics, this extra chocolaty smoothie isn’t the healthiest but it sure is yummy!
Ingredients 3/4 cup chocolate low-fat frozen yogurt

Chocolate avocado smoothie
Extra creamy and tasty this smoothie can also be a pudding if you leave the milk out! My favorite of the chocolate smoothies.
Ingredients 85 grams cold avocado flesh (~ ½ avocado)
2 tablespoons Dutch-process cocoa powder
1 medium cold banana (mine was 120 grams without the peel)
¼ cup plain Greek yogurt (or regular yogurt – just leave out the milk or use less)
2 tablespoons milk
Post workout chocolate protein smoothie
For the dedicated gym goers this smoothie is the perfect treat! This smoothie is full of protein and is completely all natural, clean ingredients!
Ingredients 1 organic and fair-trade ripe banana
2 tsp organic and fair-trade pure unsweetened cocoa powder
3 Tbsp raw organic almond butter
2 Tbsp raw organic hemp seeds
1.5 tsp raw organic Maca powder
