Despite the fact we live in a largely digital age, there are about 27 million business cards printed a day.

Business cards are important for marketing yourself, but you need to make sure that the cards are effective at doing just that.

What information should be on a business card? We put together seven tips and tricks to help you design the ultimate business card.

1. The Basics

When you are designing a business card, you want to make sure that it includes the basics.

No matter how beautiful the design on your business card is, it won’t matter if you don’t know what information should be on a business card.

You should include your name and the company you are working for (if applicable). You also need to include the usual contact information like an email or a phone number or both.

You should include the title of your position — basically, what do you do? What services do you offer?

If you have a website for your portfolio or your company, you can also include that as well.

2. An Image

Having an image on your business card can be a great way to catch people’s attention.

Many people rely on visuals and pictures for information, and if you have something that catches their attention, they may be more likely to take notice of it.

If you are a photographer or artist, designing your business card may be easier for you. But for others, you may need some help designing it. If you do include an image, you want to make sure that it’s sharp and clear and is applicable to what your job is.

If you are an artist, you probably don’t want to include a random picture of engineering (unless it is connected to your work).

No matter what image you decide to use, make sure that it says something about who you are and what you do. Don’t add an image just for the fun of it.

3. A Tagline or a Logo

Speaking of images, you should make sure that you include a logo on it (if you have one). This helps people associate you with a certain brand, and because many people recognize things visually, they may remember the brand more.

You need to make sure that you are directly tied with a business if you have one.

If you don’t have a logo, a tagline is also a catchy way to get people to remember you. Your company may have a tagline, or if you are making your own business, you should think up something catchy.

When people hold your business card, you want to make sure that people are able to easily associate you with a certain brand.

4. Social Media Profiles

If you have a social media profile, you should also include those links on your business card. You don’t have to include all of them, but make sure you include ones that are relevant and that you use frequently.

Many customers use social media, and if you’re not marketing on there, you may be missing out on a large chunk of your business.

You want people that you give your business card to, to know that you’re out there but not be overwhelmed by you and your business.

5. A Call to Action

By including a call to action or promotion code, this may motivate someone to try out your services or products.

This makes you an engaging business which is something customers appreciate.

Offering promos is also a good way to see how effective your business cards could be. You can see how many people use the promo codes, and even if they don’t, they may still end up creating traffic on your website which is good for you.

6. Some Color

Just like having an image will catch someone’s attention, so will some color on a business card.

A business card doesn’t have to be simply black and white to be professional. In fact, it can be kind of boring.

You can make a design that has some color in it and still be professional.

One easy way to do that is to have your business card be a different color with a white border. If you have an image, that will also add some color.

Perhaps your logo is in color, and then you can use some of the colors in that as a theme for the typography or other items on the business card.

No matter what you choose, you should remember that you are trying to stand out in a professional way.

7. Blank Space

While all of the things above are important to have on your business card, making sure that there is some white space on your business card is also important.

If you give too much information and make your card look too busy, the person you give it to may feel overwhelmed and not bother to try and decipher it.

When designing your business card, follow the rule that less is more.

Figure out What Information Should Be on a Business Card

When deciding what information should be on a business card, you want to make sure that you give the consumer enough information to know who you are.

You want to give them enough information in a visually appealing way, but you also want to make sure that you don’t overwhelm them.
