We are always seeking new things to inspire us and inspirational stories when it comes to a New Year. Whilst January is all about resolutions and developing our own personal self this is often a facade where we are blinded to the reality of where our actions need to lie. This month take the time to think about the causes you are truly passionate about. What do you want to change about your life or the life of those around you? How do you want to develop as a person?
Here, I have included five inspirational stories that provide different perspectives on the way the world works and allows you to truly take the time out and think about where your passions and priorities lie.
Worldwide Inspirational Stories
#1 Malala Yousafzai
Exceed when those around you try their best to inflict failure
In 2014, Malala Yousafzai became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. As a dedicated activist to women’s education, Malala has dedicated her life to ensure that every child is attending school and, furthermore, called for female discrimination to be abolished worldwide. However, this did not come at ease as behind Malala’s activism lies one of the most devastating stories that gripped nations worldwide.
Malala was the target of an assassination after she wrote blog posts and articles about the hostile situation she was living in. She was shot in the head, shoulders and neck and suffered great injuries. However, after intense treatment over many months, she found herself recovering. Instead of letting these tragic events take over her life, she did not let this horrific act overshadow her cause. She fought for what she believed in and risked her life while doing so. This is one of the many famous inspirational stories that are not to be missed.
#2 Vanessa Hudgens
Let there be light in your darkest times
Grease Live! was a live telecast performance of the classic movie. Vanessa Hudgens landed herself one of the leading roles as Rizzo, the number one pink lady. She had spent those last few months preparing for this role and was, evidently, excited to perform. However, devastation hit when her beloved father, who suffered from cancer, passed away the night before the show.
Whilst many would crumble in this period of darkness, Vanessa chose to do the show in honor of him. Having watched it, the performance she put on was out of this world and no one would have realized, had they not known, what was going on underneath. She performed to make her dad proud in a project she had put her heart and soul onto.
#3 Paris Attacks
Be there for others in their time of need
There are plenty inspirational stories, but some of them are truly sad. On 13th November 2015, three attackers killed 130 people and injured 368 in the city of Paris. Just last January, Paris also suffered devastation after 12 people were killed in a direct attack on the Charlie Hebdo offices. Charlie Hebdo, a satirical newspaper, was committed to the freedom of press and freedom of speech. Within months, we saw two tragic instances where many lives were lost.
During this time of mourning, the world laid at the feet of France. 3.7 million people, including world leaders, marched through Paris, hand in hand, just a few short days after the Hebdo attacks. In November, world landmarks lit up in the colors of the French flag. These actions were those that let Paris knew the world was behind them. Even if events do not affect you, are not even in your home country, or you do not know the people who are suffering, let them know that you are there. Whether this is simply sending a message, donating or showing your support for a cause, share the love.
#4 Leonardo DiCaprio
Take care of the world you live in
Whilst there are endless discussions surrounding Leonardo DiCaprio and his road to the Oscars, Leonardo himself never fails to demonstrate his down to earth nature. Whether you are browsing his social media channels, his website or listening to his acceptance speeches, Leonardo is passionate about his fight for environmental change.
Whether it’s the simple things such as installing solar panels in his house or momentous acts such as meeting the Pope to discuss climate change, Leonardo DiCaprio remains focused in what he does regardless of the fame he gathers from his prestigious work. Although no one asks you to donate millions to such causes, think about the simple things you can change in your life to make a difference in the world.
#5 Emma Watson
Don’t be the first to judge
One of the inspirational stories I personally love is this one. Emma Watson has become the face of gender equality over the past few years as she embarks on her role as the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. Using her campaign, He For She, she encouraged the globe to participate in the fight for gender equality – men included. Many are quick to jump to conclusions about the motives of those in such roles, particularly women rights. Gender equality has transgressed from women fighting solely for what they believe in. The fight for such equality in this age is collective.
Emma captures the minds of the world, on multiple platforms, and encouraged men to partake in this fight and it worked – the response was beyond belief. Whilst this is only one example, it demonstrates how assumptions limit our actions. Had we not taken the time to share an interest in such cause or heard about it due to global platforms would we have been just as quick to assume as the rest of us?
While these are just five examples of acts, of inspirational stories, that change the way the world work they are not the only ones. Learn from such lessons, take them as you please and be inspired in a way that suits you. Most of all think about how you can better yourself, your inner challenges and furthermore those around the globe.
Although no one asks you to do such momentous acts as those listed above, think how you can participate in making a difference and making the world a better place.
