Congratulations! You just got engaged! Now begins the fun (and sometimes stressful) process of wedding planning.
One of the hardest and yet most important decisions you’ll have to make when planning your wedding is to decide on a venue. This is often one of the first decisions you two will make about your wedding, and it’s important to get it right!
To help you decide (and hopefully get rid of some stress!), we’ve put together this guide to choose a wedding venue.
Know Your Budget
Money can be a real downer when it comes to planning a wedding. But you don’t need to get the “budget blues” just yet! Sometimes having less money to work with allows you to be more creative with your options.
Once you and your significant other agree on a budget, then you can start to explore some really special options for your big day.
A few things to consider when you’re setting your budget though:
- You may want to set your guest list first as you don’t want to select a venue that is either too big or too small for the number of people you want to be there.
- Don’t be afraid of obscure or destination options, some are a lot cheaper than you think. If you’ve always dreamed of a beach wedding, go for it!
- Remember to include decorations in your budget and your venue selection. Even if a place may not look like much now, consider all the possibilities!
Visit Your Options
Once you’ve set your budget and you know the types of places you and your future spouse are interested in, you should start looking for places to visit! A simple search like “country wedding venue near me” should do the trick.
But pictures never really give you a complete idea of what the venue feels like. So once you’ve chosen your shortlist of options, be sure to actually go and visit those places!
Actually being in the physical space of a venue and taking a tour around it will really help to solidify your feelings about it. If it’s the right choice for you, you’ll know.
Tell A Story
Something to consider when selecting your perfect wedding venue is what story are you telling with it? Does the venue reflect your story as a couple in some way? Or does it just look pretty?
Places like where you got engaged, where you first met, where you shared your first kiss, could all possibly be options for your wedding destination.
Whether or not you choose a place of historical significance to your love story, you should make sure that your venue reflects something about you two.
Be Yourselves!
And of course, the most important thing is to be true to who you are as a couple. Don’t worry about pressure from family and friends or the latest trends. Just choose a venue that feels right to you and makes you both happy.
