During summer, heat takes a toll on our skin. It always feels more or less dehydrated. Especially our lips, if you noticed. Sometimes, they look dry and parched. So, what is it that we can do to make our lips rosy and plump? We are here to give 10 cool lips protection tips to use in the summer, against the sun, so that your lips look gorgeous.
Lips Protection Tips
Pink and rosy lips can enhance a woman‘s beauty. They are the sign of good health. Lips don’t have any oil gland of their own. So, with age, pollution, harsh heat and poor diet, they tend to dry up and look lifeless.
With these lips protection tips, we can easily reverse the ageing and dullness of our lips. Here are our 10 cool tips to follow this season.
#1. Drink plenty of water
Many times, in our busy lives, we forget to hydrate ourselves. This can cause dryness in the skin and, especially in the lips (they feel flaky and dry). During the summer months, try to drink 2-3 litres of water per day and see what difference it makes to your lips.
#2. Stop licking or biting
If you have a habit of licking or biting your lips, please stop. This nasty habit dehydrates your beautiful lips. Again, drink water in case your lips feel too dry.
#3. Quit smoking
If you smoke, you are prone to get wrinkles around your lips, way before anybody else. Nicotine dehydrates the lips, they look aged and dark. So, quit smoking immediately. Believe me, your lips will thank you for it!
#4. Use lip balms
To protect your lips from the intense heat, one of the best lips protection tips is to use lip balms.
Lip balms not only moisturise them but also protect them from the hot sun. There are a lot of good BRANDS of lip balms available in the market. There are many brands which have added Vitamin E for extra moisturising.

You can also make your very own lip balm at home. All you need is beeswax, shea butter, cocoa butter or coconut oil . Heat and mix them. Then, when the mixture cools down, add your favourite essential oil and store it in a clean container.
Whenever you are going out or you feel your that your lips are getting dehydrated, apply your organic lip balm.
#5. Exfoliate
Exfoliating is a good way to remove all of the dead cells and dirt from the skin. But our lips are very delicate. So, a good idea would be to exfoliate gently.
One of the simplest ways to do it is to mix sugar and honey, and then slowly rub the mixture on your lips. Let it stay for a minute or two and wash it off. Apply a lip balm.
Or, if you are running late for a meeting, all you need to do is take a soft toothbrush dipped in lukewarm water and brush it on your lips gently. All the dead cells and dirt will be washed away and you will have soft and supple lips.
#6. Use natural moisturisers
We can make moisturisers at home and they can improve the colour of the lips (they get darkened due to heat). Mix a few crushed rose petals with rose water and milk cream. Make a paste and apply it on your lips every night before sleeping.
Rose water and milk cream will hydrate and rose petals will improve the colour of your lips making them look rosy and pink. Similarly, you can mix saffron with milk cream and apply it on your lips before sleeping. These moisturisers will help in restoring the natural colour of your lips!
#7. Use good quality cosmetics
Great lips protection tips require the use of good quality cosmetics products for lips. Always use branded lipsticks because they will not dry out the lips.
Discard any lip products which are past their expiration date. Matte lipsticks should be avoided during summer, as they, too, dehydrate the lips. Use creamy and glossy lipsticks, so that your lips look shiny and smooth.
There are many available brands like Bobby Brown, L’Oreal and Mac that have creamy and glossy lipsticks. One should apply petroleum jelly before applying any lipstick or gloss.
#8. Eat fruits and vegetables
If you have enough vitamins then your lips will be less prone to pigmentation. They will not dry out from the heat.
So, make sure you are having your daily servings of vegetables and fruits. Pomegranate and beetroots are recommended for pink lips. They will also give a natural tint to your lips.
#9. Massage them gently
To bring back the colour of your lips and to hydrate them, gently massage your lips with a cream. Later, wipe it off. This will increase the circulation and bring back the lost colour.
#10. Avoid the excess of caffeine
The excess of caffeine does not only discolour teeth, but it also discolours lips. Caffeine acts as a diuretic and dehydrates your skin. So, it is a good idea to avoid those extra cups of cappuccino you love so much. Switch to fruit juice and green tea to avoid the dehydration of lips.
It’s one of the coolest lips protection tips you can apply in your life.
Last, but not the least, as a “bonus”, one of my favourite lips protection tips is to “SMILE“. It’s the best accessory your lips can have and the best therapy we can suggest.
So, this summer make sure you follow these cool lips protection tips and remember to always flaunt your smile! We are sure somebody is going to fall in love with that gorgeous smile of yours.
