Italy is an ideal country for a family vacation. There is plenty to see and do. And of course, plenty of delicious food to eat!

Traveling to a new country can be daunting, especially for a family. If you want to get the most out of your family trip to Italy, you’ll want some advice!

Here are 5 tips for the perfect family trip to Italy.

1. Must visit cities

There are many cities in Italy. Thankfully, most of them are extremely family-friendly. If you’re looking for a trip that appeals to everyone in the family, be sure to visit:

  • Tuscany (including Florence)
  • Lake Como
  • Italian Riveria
  • Venice
  • Umbria
  • Dolomites
  • Amalfi Coast
  • Puglia

Each of these cities provides a variety of family activities!

The Italian Riviera makes for an amazing beach-side vacation. See Italy’s history for yourself in Rome by visiting the ancient ruins. The Colosseum is a must see!

2. Consider leaving the stroller at home

Italy is home to plenty of steps and endless cobblestone streets. Needless to say, the country isn’t the most stroller friendly place.

If possible, bring a backpack carrier with you. This makes walking with a young child much easier. There’s nothing more frustrating than struggling with a stroller!

If you must bring a stroller, pack one that is lightweight.

3. Plan ahead for meal time differences

In Italy, most people do not eat dinner until 8:00 p.m., unless your family is already accustomed to late meal times, you’ll want to prep for this change.

To keep everyone’s bellies full and happy, pack snacks! You can also find snacks at the many grocery stores throughout the country

The good news is that there is no shortage of authentic Italian cuisine. While in Italy, book a local Florence food tour. Want to taste some of the best Italian food? If so, a food tour is a must!

4. Plan child-friendly activities

There are tons of child-friendly activities in Italy. The best part? They’re also fun for adults. A few family-friendly ideas include:

  • Climbing a volcano in Naples
  • Going on a Venetian boat ride
  • Visiting the Aquarium of Genoa
  • Taking a ride on the Bernina Express
  • Spending a day at the Bergamo Outdoor Zoo

5. Consider an off-season trip

Traveling with your family can already be difficult. Dealing with youngsters in crowded places makes it even worse.

To make the trip much less stressful, visit Italy during offseason. Avoid traveling to the country July through August, as well around the time of Christian holidays.

Losing a child in a packed museum in a foreign country is ever parent’s worst nightmare!

The best time to visit the country is during late spring and early fall.
