Emerald green was 2013’s colour of the year, therefore favoured on the runway that year. Emerald green is a lively and radiant colour, “A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony.” (according to Pantone).
“Symbolically, Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world. This powerful and universally appealing tone translates easily to both fashion and home interiors,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

Head-to-toe emerald looks started streaming in Spring 2013 and are still flowing today, maybe not with the same intensity. But they are still present on the runways, even just as accessories such as shoes, bags or clutches and jewelry.

Eco – Fashion: Sustainble and Conscious
When we talk about the rejuvenating colour green, we think of the environment and our planet, organic food, forests, green cities and green revolutions, basically everything that’s got to do with a healthy life. Life is the key word here. Green is the colour of life.
The fact that fashion went green reflects a trend in the industry, a fashion statement. Sustainability became the new normal, that’s why eco-chic became mainstream. I think that one important reason for which fashion became green is to present to very best of it, that is, a sustainable, eco-friendly fashion.
Everybody knows that Stella McCartney is fully commited to green fashion – she never uses leather or fur in her collections or the fact that Claire Vivier uses environmentally friendly accessories. Kowtow or H&M Conscious Collection use 100% sustainable fabrics such as organic cotton.

Eco (or sustainable) fashion represents a design philosophy that has the following purpose: to create a system which can be supported, indefinitely, by environmentalism and social responsibility. Leaving out the fact that GREEN is a colour that seems to takes us in that particular direction, due to its meaning, a colour is not enough to get something this big started. However, it’s good to know that designers have started to incorporate different sustainable practices in the modern design and that they care about what happens to the environment.
I guess nobody knows what the future holds, especially regarding eco-fashion, but if movements like these are going to be created further on, then, nothing seems impossible and great results will come out of this!
The colour of nature always brings fashion to life!
