“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” (Coco Chanel)
During the World War I, when men were sent to the battlefields to fight for their countries, women were left behind with their children. Suddenly they had to not only take care of the kids and the household, but they had to go to work in the fabrics to support the family and work really hard to run the community. It changed the whole mentality of the society! The effect of this situation quickly became influential also in the world of fashion! Women started wearing cheap, second-hand clothes that were more comfortable and often inspired by menswear. Women also decided to or had to wear mens clothes that were available.

The same period of time, a young and ambitious designer was about to launch her very first collection, completely inspired by men’s fashion – Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel known as Coco Chanel! She built the entire brand by raiding her partners wardrobe for vests, jackets, shirts, ties and hats! Not long after Chanel – bold, chic and innovative brand – was created, the fashion world became to change! Silhouettes of the dresses became more loose, more and more modest accessories and embellishments were worn, garments used were cheaper and more simple!
