Spring 2014 Ready-To-Wear: Burberry Prorsum Women Collection

//Spring 2014 Ready-To-Wear: Burberry Prorsum Women Collection

Founded in 1856, Burberry brand is highly linked to the British culture and heritage. Probably most of you know their emblematic trench coats, which represent the statement of Burberry brand. Having three collections under the Burberry name: Burberry Prorsum, Burberry Collection and Burberry Brit, the former represents the reference when it comes to creation and runaways.

Christopher Bailey, the creative director of Burberry Prorsum, introduced us into an English rose garden. Angela Ahrends’ successor didn’t disappointed Burberry’s fans with this collection.  It was all about subtlety of this magnificent flower, about the discretion and the beauty of nature.The whole scene embodied a pretty cool summer taking into consideration the inclusion of coats and sweaters. We might think Bailey really created a 100% English collection.

The colors used, which were mainly soft pastels, remind us about the sweetness of cotton candy. An even better approach, Dolly Jones in her Vogue UK review, associated the colors used with the delicious french macaroons and she can’t be more right.

Don’t you think the strong colors missed the runway because whenever you felt you are getting into the roses garden relaxing mood, you got woken up by a thorn coming up in the form of intense prints combination.

The main idea of the rose garden was the perfect metaphor of the designer in showing the different personalities of the Burberry women.

He got kind of tired by the daring Burberry women, so he approached the softer side of it. The contrast came also from the prints. If at the beginning of the show the outfits were mainly pastel monochromes, on the way to the finale some interesting prints arose. There were statement prints like polka dots and stripes, which combination thrilled.

The collection includes garments such as cashmere and silk blend sweaters together with floral print sheer fine-jersey pencil skirts. Of course the Burberry iconic trench coat was reinvented and presented in soft colors, keeping that fashion forward English feel.
The preciousness and quality of the fabrics (cashmere, silk and lace) together with the discrete details created by the British Maison were simply creating an elegant and luxurious atmosphere. Of course, for getting into the classy British mood, location played an important role. Kensington Garden was the place chosen by Christopher Bailey and it was the perfect spot for this catwalk in which Matilda Lowther, followed by fashion industry’s sweetheart Cara Delevingne enchanted the critics with their naturalism and brought the collection that contemporary twist it needed.

The finale was grandiose, as it expected. A beautiful petal rain accompanied the models in doing their runaway and also enchanted the audience. If we would have to sum everything up I would say Bailey made a pretty good collection, paying great attention to details and fabrics. We just cannot forget the beautiful manufactured lace pencil skirts, the feather clutches and most of all, Cara’s ultra-trendy latex raincoat at the final of the show.
