Girls, I think we all agree that makeup can be considered one of our best friends 😉 . Anyway, it is wrong to think that “a lot of makeup” means “perfection”. We are gorgeous just as we are, makeup is just a tool that we can use in the right place and in the right quantity to correct some imperfections, or to bring out and to give value to our own features. Personally, I love playing with my eye-makeup, but creating a good base on our skin can really make the difference.

Before becoming so passionate about makeup, I though that there wasn’t any difference between the way you can apply a foundation, in terms of the “end-result” or finish. But I was wrong! In this article I will focus on the best ways you can apply liquid foundations on your skin in order to reach a flawless look for Christmas and for NYE or, why not, just to experience something you haven’t tried before!

Use Your Fingers!

Yes, probably it might be taken for granted, but using the fingers to apply foundation is the cheapest method and it is also effective! Probably you won’t reach the highest coverage, but it works pretty well 🙂 You have to be careful and wash your hands before applying it, otherwise you will encourage germ-formation and then… spots! Actually, I do not suggest you this method if you already have acne skin, or if you’re putting on makeup on another person (it’s unhygienic).
Remember: do not apply more foundation than the amount you really need just to cover the blemishes that you have; Start from the center of your face (nose and T-zone) and then blend the foundation in the rest of the face: the result will be more natural.

Duo-Fiber Brush

I personally love this kind of brushes because the effect on the skin, after the application, is very natural. It is also pleasant to use them thanks to the fact that they have double fibers indeed, and so, two different kind of thickness; The feeling on the skin is similar to the one of a soft massage! The main aim of this brush is to imitate the effect given by the “airbrush” which is a painting tool that spread colour through nebulization. The best way to use them is to apply the foundation on the back of your hand and then pick up a small amount of product with the brush and apply it in circular motions on your face (always from the centre to the outer part of the face).

Airbrushes

As you can see, these kind of brushes have much more “compact” bristles then the duo-fiber ones. They give good coverage, but the effect is less natural. I do not suggest applying foundation in a hurry with these kind of brushes or you’ll reach a non-homogeneous and unesthetic finish on the skin. In fact, the section is quite small and it takes a while to blend the product well! However, the small section allows you to be more precise during the application which has to be done, once again, in circular motions.

Flat Brush

This kind of brush allows you to be extremely precise and it gives high coverage, also beacuse you can not only spread out the foundation , but also dab it where you need more coverage (spots, blemishes, or the under eyes area). The problem with the flat brush is that sometimes leaves on the skin literally some unaesthetic “lines” (yes, it’s a problem of the brush, not of the foundation that you are using), so you have to be careful and blend it well, changing the “directions” through which you are applying the product on your face.

The Sponge

A lot of shapes of sponges exist and is up to you choosing the one which suits better your needs :). You have to wet the sponge before withdrawing a small amount of product and dab it on to your skin. The effect is really beautiful: a natural look, yet with good coverage. It is not the fastest method to apply liquid foundation, but, in my opinion is one of the best. Two things I don’t like about sponges: first, you have to buy them more frequent than the brushes because they wear out and second, they are not easy washable like the brushes.
Remember: It is extremely important to wash as often as you can anything you use to apply the foundation on your skin in order to prevent spots! Use a special, delicate shampoo to do this!
