Fall 2014 Trend: Turtlenecks

//Fall 2014 Trend: Turtlenecks

For a while there, turtlenecks got a back seat when fashion industry was talking about the most chic trends. This fall though, it was making a strong comeback on many catwalks such as for Jil Sander, Celine, J. W. Anderson, Marni, Rodarte and Stella McCartney!

The turtleneck is also called a polo neck, roll-neck and skivvy. The turtleneck garments origin go back to the 18th century and was firstly worn by sailors and athletes. Later, in the 20th century, it was worn by artists and philosophers to make a rebellious statement against wearing a tie. The turtleneck is usually seen as a modest trend that is used for simple and practical layering. Often worn just to protect the upper body and, of course, the neck against low temperatures, but also exposure.

Throughout centuries the turtleneck garments have been mainly worn by men and their ability to add a chic look to any outfit was ignored in women’s fashion for a long time. This autumn, on the other hand, the trend strikes back stronger than ever and not only is seen on the catwalks, but also is making a statement on the streets!

Here is some useful tips on how to wear Fall 2014 trend – the turtleneck!

This season though, turtlenecks strike a lot stronger and the colours, patterns and textures that it was worn with were a lot wider and bold!

About the Author:

A fashion photographer from Estonia who is taking BA degree studies in Southampton Solent University, United Kingdom. Currently based in Lisbon, Portugal. Fashion and photography have always been a great passion of mine, which is why, after a short period of art and photography studies in Odder, Denmark, I decided to commit myself to a BA degree in fashion photography to grow as an artist, improve the technical skills and deeply understand the behind the scene of fashion industry. Curious and adventurous personality allows me to explore fashion photography from different angles. I enjoy working in the studio and outdoors, creating a different narrative and look each time. Until now, I also styled and directed on hair and make-up on the shoots. The outcome is always edited and retouched by me. I am also interested in graphic design and take a great pleasure combining these two fields that are so strongly connected.
