Heels, as I am sure you know by now, are life changing. They can transform an outfit, a perception and, most of all, a person. They add personality to your ensemble whether this is a little party time sassiness or a touch of class and sophistication. But do you know how to wear heels?
However, there is one downside to heels: many underestimate their power. More often than you may expect, people find the thought of wearing such footwear a little daunting. If there is one thing I would like to share with you, it is the power of heels, and, in turn, power brings confidence, love and life.
Here, I share with you the many different ways regarding how to wear heels, fabulous pairs of heels to suit your own personal needs. Maybe you struggle to walk in them, maybe you think you are too tall, maybe people will look at you – all these are attributes you should love rather than despise, however, having many options to experiment with is a key in loving such a classic wardrobe accessory.
How To Wear Heels – 7 Staple Shoes
#1 Stiletto Courts
First, I will begin with the classics. When talking about how to wear heels, stilettos are momentous in the history of heeled shoes. Regardless of whatever ensemble you are wearing, these shoes are fail-proof. Whether you opt for a pointed front or a round platform, owning a pair of these is a necessity.
My favourite thing is that this design is timeless, so you will never have to worry about them going off trend, not to mention the many different colours and heel heights they come in. My own personal favourites are a pair of So Kate black leather Louboutins I bought for my graduation. If you were to invest in a pair of designer shoes, this is for sure the design I would recommend purchasing, the variation out there is beyond belief.

“This glossy So Kate pump boasts Christian Louboutin’s finest stiletto heel, set near-vertical to dramatically shape your gait into a jaw-dropping stride. The iconic red sole—born from a brush with red nail color—pops beneath the graceful curves.”

#2 Peep Toe Heels
Peep toes are perfect for any occasion. Particularly in the summer, during wedding and garden party season, peeps toes are everywhere. There is something elegant about them and they are perfect to show off your pedicure! All these heels look so beautiful for a spring or summer wedding that I can’t imagine wearing any other heel option.

#3 Kitten Heels
Kitten heels are controversial. I know that sounds a little crazy when discussing how to wear heels, but the discussions surrounding this style are endless. Many complaints that the heels which are often 3 inches or less are too small. Whilst admittedly they aren’t my favourite, their comeback cannot be disregarded.
Designers are aware of the taboo surrounding them and have now decided to accustom their designs to the countless trends found on the runway. When I was in Paris just a few weeks back, I found a gorgeous pair of lilac kitten heels at Banana Republic and I just wish I had bought them. Heels aren’t for everyone, especially for those who have a fear of walking in them, but kittens are perfect to conquer these fears.
Valentino ‘Rockstud’ Pointy Toe Pump
“Signature rock studs glint on the caged straps of an edgy patent leather pump detailed with a slim kitten heel and pointed toe.”

J. Renee ‘Garbi’ Pointy Toe Bow Pump
“A sensational bow tops the pointy toe of this lovely pump while a mesh inset along the curved topline adds some extra flirty style. A slingback strap, low kitten heel and cushy padded footbed finish this striking look.”
#4 Wedges
Wedges are favoured by most people and I can understand why. A style that we only use to find during the summer months has since made its way into every season. Wedges are a favourite because they are more comfortable and easier to walk in. Why wouldn’t you wear something that looks out of this world yet pleases your comfort levels all at the same time?
Kate Spade New York ‘Danah’ Wedge Sandal
“Blending the best of the season’s trends, a jute-wrapped platform balances the signature striped upper of a flirty wedge sandal. Shaped from supple leather, it’s topped with wraparound grosgrain ankle ties for feminine, espadrille-inspired style.”

MICHAEL Michael Kors ‘Josephine’ Wedge
“A wood-look platform refreshes a single-panel sandal set atop a stacked wedge.”
#5 Barely-There Heels
Barely-there sandals are your go-to when attending formal events. Your feet are completely on show meaning your pins look insane as does your pedicure. You have to know how to wear heels like these. This is one pair of heels I have in every design going. While it’s a little difficult to walk in to begin with, you will soon find yourself in the swing of things and never wanting to take them off. I know I didn’t!

Topshop ‘Rumour’ Ankle Strap Sandal
“A skinny stiletto boosts a barely-there sandal styled with a skinny ankle strap and crisscrossing bands at the toe.”
#6 Boots
Whether ankle or knee high, heeled boots are you winter go-to. When the weather is a little dull and covering your feet is necessary, heeled boots bring the right amount of trend and fabulous that you need. Most of all go perfectly even with off-duty outfits, yes I am talking denim or any other textile for that matter!
River Island Knee High Boot With Block Heel
Highland Over-the-Knee Boot Wine Suede

ALDO Kycia Rust Pull On Calf Block Heel Boots
#7 Lace -up Heels
I find myself wearing lace-ups when I am looking for something a little different. Whilst I adore stilettos and sandals, sometimes your ensemble needs a touch of excitement and lace-ups provide just that. Designers have embraced lace-ups and since then they developed their designs into outrageous creations that combine colour, shape and technique all in one. If you want all attention drawn to your footwear this is certainly my number one choice.
