Marc Jacobs, aged 51 and one of the worlds most reknown fashion designers. Head of Marc Jacobs and creative director of Louis Vuitton until just last year, Marc Jacobs is one of the most influential people within the fashion industry.
Marc became the youngest designer to receive the Perry Ellis CFDA Award, an award with the highest prestige. Whilst studying at Parsons he began the first stage of his soon to be collection-in-demand primarily selling hand knit sweaters. In 1986 Marc Jacobs inc. was established and Marc was named as one of Vogues ‘seven rising stars of fashion’ hiring Tom Ford for his womenswear collection. His own brand entered into the sphere of beauty and perfumes and became one of the most successful brands within an industry out of his comfort zone. In 1993 he was awarded the CFDA womenswear designer of the year and his collection soon entered stores. After being declared an established designer Marc Jacobs accepted the role of artistic director for Louis Vuitton, soon becoming responsible for it’s luxury clothing line and leather goods. Marc entered a dark time when he was admitted to rehab for drug and alcohol abuse however we can only praise him for returning with such poise, power and perfection.

Last season Miley Cyrus was the starlet at the centre of discussion as she faced the campaign for SS14. This season Kendall Jenner made her catwalk debut on Marc’s very catwalk. Both women are showstopping. AW14 was minimal and focused on simplicity unlike Marc’s iconic grunge we are so use to seeing.
Colour Trance
This trend is mesmerising and magical. Washed out water colours and sheer ruffle create illusions within each dynamic piece. I love the range of tailoring and elaboration. Elegance is present, vivid and overwhelming sending front row goers into the daze Marc has so carefully created. My favourite is the cropped trousers and tee combination showing that elegance not only lies within the sphere of ball gowns.

The neck scarf
So mommsy? A little dated? Boring? Think again. We return to the classical cliché daydream of dominating the catwalk with pretend hats and scarves. The scarves are central despite the contrasting necklines. The neck scarf is now considered something a little daring as we enter a new chapter of modernity. No longer will we frown upon such an ‘accessory’ but instead admire.

Exaggerations
Here we are exposed to every inch of Marc’s personality and willingness to deviate. Oversize coats are statement making, dominant and every fashion girls fall must have. The pieces have the ability to transform an otherwise dull and minimal outfit. So many variations appeal to the eye of every fashion lover. Marc pushes the boundaries whether his previous reception was positive or negative. With Vogues fully fledged support Marc finds himself in a position to demonstrate exaggeration, elaboration and boldness without the concerns of critics.
Multi-trend magnificence
No Marc Jacobs show would be complete without a little sparkle. Rather than a clear cut vision he leaves us expecting the unexpected and he delivers just that. From scallops to high necks, to wraps and ruffles. A combination of the most unconventional techniques are what come together to create the Marc Jacobs image and overall vision. Marc creates pieces of class, chic and sophistication which is exactly why the fashion world is at his feet.
