When it comes to this season, there is one trend, the cut-out trend – to be more specific, that rises above all, don’t you agree? Well, darlings, the cut-out trend is something a little experimental, exaggerated and ultimately fabulous, yet a little daunting. Whether it’s on the runway, at your favourite high street store or included in the street style wardrobe of your favourite bloggers, this is one trend we cannot escape, but we find us asking ourselves would we even want to?

Whilst, as usual, this trend is a little daunting, especially if you don’t particularly enjoy flaunting your skin, it can be tailored to a way that suits you best. This is one trend that is chic yet classy and, of course, has every ounce of sophistication flowing from it. Although in the past it has primarily been included in the realm of evening wear, it has since transgressed into off-duty style. There is something so effortless about making this trend work and I am going to show you exactly how to do it and most of all how to love it.

There are many ways to stay whilst embracing this trend and the most important thing to consider if your focal point. In what position would you like the cut-out to be centred? Where do you want the attention to lie? From top to bottom, here are my favourite areas where the cut-out trend stays on top of trends.

The Cut-Out Trend: Types Of Cut-Outs

Neckline

A cut-out neckline appears to be an obvious choice, however, I promise you it is far from cliche. Whilst this may be the go-to focal point if you find the cut-out trend a little daunting to begin with, you will find yourself in extensive appreciation of this.

While this may be minimal it is also a start and once you find yourself obsessing, the opportunities are endless. I love the cut-out neckline when it comes to workwear. You could be wearing a fitted midi dress, however, one small incision around the neckline adds personality and perfection to your look.

“A flirty front cutout brings after-hours appeal to a cosy, long-sleeve sweater-dress designed to hug and flatter your figure.”

Shoulder

So, when you think of cut-out pieces, you immediately think of shoulders and quite rightly so. This particular focal point is my favourite and it is one I work with time and time again. Whether you are frolicking in a strappy Bardot or partying in a beautiful body-con cut-out, it is sexy, sleek and curiosity provoking. It’s your time to flaunt your fabulous features and deviate from the conventional and traditional trends that you overuse time and time again.

I also find the cut-out trend as a source of both inspiration and influence, the moment you see someone else looking divine whilst embracing it, the more likely you will kill it. It’s your time to shine and show everyone the fashionista you truly are.

Sides

Your sides are the area of skin I would define as below your underarm however above your hips. I would arguably say that this is the most daring form of cut-outs as this is the greatest area of exposure. Designers have provided us with endless choices and ways to make such a notion look fabulous and flawless.

When worn in the right way, your ensemble is picture perfection and although a little daring, the attention will certainly remain on you. And for all the right reasons. Once you try this, you will find yourself repeating this version of the cut-out trend time and time again.

Centre

One focal point when it comes to the cut-out trend remains at the centre of your body just above your belly button, a piece of skin that is rarely exposed unless on the beach. Now this is one idea that high street retailers love to work with as we find brands such as Topshop re-entering such pieces and trends season after season.

When considering cut-outs, it was unlikely you would even contemplate the many options you have however it is necessary in order to choose what works best for you and what you feel most confident and beautiful in.

The cut-out trend is all the rage, but did you ever think the opportunities to experiment with it were that extensive? Absolutely not. Trends are made to alter and make them work with your own personal style. This trend has been here season after season and only gets better. Expect the unexpected. We can only hope to see its return on the AW16 runway, however, we can almost guarantee this.
