The 2014 January Editorial: Cosmopolitan US

//The 2014 January Editorial: Cosmopolitan US

January is here and one of my resolutions for the New Year was to read some more magazines, as I mostly read Elle and sometimes Vogue. The first magazine I have picked was Cosmopolitan. I have picked the US version, because it simply looks more than happy, and the beginning of the New Year, along with all its resolutions, brings joy and happiness to everybody. This editorial is very pink, very girlie and very Lauren Conrad. She is simply impossibly cute in this spread and I could not help but notice how awfully smooth she flirts with the camera. She is simply amazing. In here, she offers tips on how to be sexy, gives us several outfit ideas and answers some of the questions of the interviewer.

The editorial looks joyful, very playful and I find it perfect for a splash of colour in the New Year. Obviously, it is very different compared to what you would normally see in Elle, or even in Vogue, but as I was reading into the magazine, they have this playful tone and I find it blends perfectly with their ethos.

It is sometimes hard to identify whether the spread is good or bad for the month of the year it is published in, I mean, normally, the bright and bold colours go for the more summerish months, than for the rather gloomy January, but don’t you think it makes up for a nice metaphor? What does January stand for? It si the first month of the New Year, it is the start of something new and fresh. What epitome is better for fresh than the bold pink used for background? It catches the eye, that is for sure, besides, it just makes you happy by looking at it. When outside it is raining, the wind is blowing and you feel very depressed, just open Cosmo’s January Editorial and get happy instantly. It screams bliss and it is a very good anti-depressor (with the British weather, you need a strong one of the latter!). Besides, Lauren Conrad, oozes this energy transposed to the reader through her smile and pose, but also through the colour of the background, a vivid pink you cannot miss. It gives you energy just by fixing the intense colour! It has depth, it is fun, girly and joyful… it is the perfect January editorial, and the happiest I have seen in a while!
