It’s crucial to be equipped with the skills to defend yourself, no matter who or where you are.

Do the best you can to remember these points in the moment, and you will be much better off.

Here are 5 simple self-defense techniques everyone should know:

Make a Lot of Noise

If you are being attacked in a public place, do your best to yell and draw a lot of attention to yourself. Someone may be able to come help you, or at the very least, alert the police.

Screaming may also distract your attacker and cause them to lose focus on their objective, giving you time to incapacitate them or run away to safety.

Carry Sensible Protection

Depending on your size or where you live, you may want to consider carrying some sort of protection.

Some people do opt to carry firearms for protection if their state allows them to. But you should only do so if you feel like you can handle the responsibility.

Guns injure and kill people every year, so if you do not know how to use one, do not attempt to carry one.

Some people carry mace in their pockets or handbags for protection against predators.

Other people carry more discreet weapons for protection, such as brass knuckles, or a cat self-defense keychain.

No matter what you carry, realize that these are dangerous weapons that should only be used in dire circumstances.

Go For The Eyes

If you come under attack, the first places you should look to are the eyes. Poking out the eyes can greatly incapacitate an offender.

Not only will you be able to distract them and give you the chance to make an escape, but you can actually seriously injure them.

The eyes are exposed and open to attack. Take advantage of this and give yourself an edge in a scuffle.

Keep Your Distance

The farther away you are from your attacker, the better off you will be, especially if they have a short range weapon.

If you cannot run away from an offender easily, try to keep as much space between you and them as possible.

It may be tempting to charge your attacker with a weapon or a swift punch, but this may result in more harm than good.

Defense is the first priority. Only attack if you feel like there is no other way.

Stay Calm

Above all else, try to keep your cool. It’s natural to freeze when someone tries to make you a victim.

But it’s very important that you have the presence of mind to think clearly and make sound decisions in the moment.

At the end of the day, your safety is the number one priority. If someone is trying to attack you, it is okay to use any means necessary to get to safety, especially if you believe that your life is in danger.

Everyone should have the luxury to get home safe every day and focus on your health. Leave a comment below to continue the discussion!
